The Minisink Hook & Ladder Co. is proud to announce our certification as a registered Opioid Overdose Prevention Program by the New York State Department of Health!
Participants will receive training on the use of Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, to reverse an overdose on opiods, such as heroin or narcotic pain medications. The training lasts approximately 45 minutes and teaches students how to recognize and react to an overdose on opiods, including administration of Narcan. Students who complete the training will receive a kit containing two doses of Narcan. The course and kits are all provided free of charge. Opioids such as heroin and narcotic pain medications act as depressants on the central nervous system. An overdose of opiods results in a lower breathing rate, eventually causing cardiac arrest and death. Naloxone works by blocking the receptors that the opiate bonds to, restoring respiratory drive. If given correctly, in conjuction with rescue breathing and CPR if needed, the use of Naloxone can reverse the overdose and save lives. According to the American Society of Addiction Medicine, drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the US, with 52,404 lethal drug overdoses in 2015. Opioid addiction is driving this epidemic, with 20,101 overdose deaths related to prescription pain relievers, and 12,990 overdose deaths related to heroin in 2015. The clinical director for the program is Dr. Pamela Murphy of Orange Regional Medical Center. |

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world. At RLI, our purpose is twofold. First, RLI is a great place for newly inducted Rotarians to quickly learn about the “Object of Rotary”, “The Four Way Test” “The Five Avenues of Service” and much more. As in every endeavor, the more you know about something, the more interesting it becomes. Rotary is most assuredly one of those organizations that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. RLI can make that possible for you. Graduates of RLI are more likely to remain in, and be a bigger part of Rotary, than any other demographic. Second, RLI seeks to have Rotary Clubs in its member districts identify those Rotarians who appear to have the potential for future club leadership (not necessarily as club presidents) and provide those so identified with a quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills so important in voluntary organizations.
RLI is a three part program, Part I, Part II and Part III. Each Part is a full day and you can take each Part as your schedule allows. It is an amazing learning experience for all Rotarians. Club Officers can build on their Rotary Knowledge to enhance their club experience. Club Presidents can expand on the skills gained at their President Elect Training Seminar. Long time Rotarians can re-kindle the old Rotary flame, and at the same time share their experiences with the other participants. New Rotarians that have joined in the last 3 years will be reimbursed by the District for attending the Part I courses for the first time. Have you gone through all 3 years of courses? Join us for the graduate course! Have you taken the graduate course in the past? It changes each year, so come and see what's new! To register go to www.rlinea.org and click Newburgh on the left hand side.
Your browser does not support iframes.

My Shanghai Experience.
Jan. 03, 2019
I was recently admitted to the BS/MS joint degree program for accounting and finance at NYU Stern School of Business. Originally from Israel, I moved to the U.S. when I was young, and I had the amazing opportunity to complete the first part of my degree in Shanghai, China at NYU's portal campus. Once there, I learned Mandarin Chinese and founded a successful business chapter to connect students with local companies. Outside of academia, I worked last summer at the U.S. Department of the Treasury as a summer analyst in Washington, DC, and I was offered a position at Deloitte this summer in New York City. On my free time, I love to stay active, travel to new places, and give back to my community through the America Reads/America Counts mentorship program in NYC. |
