HONORING MY DAD
By Anne Marie Wiley
My dad proudly served in the United States Army's 405th Infantry during World War II. He shipped out to Europe just weeks after I was born and served in the Ardennes and Rhineland, Belgium, and Germany.
During that time, 1944-1945, he earned the Silver Star Medal. He ignored enemy artillery fire and personal injury to repair his vehicle, which had been immobilized by shrapnel, thus ensuring that his comrades received the much-needed ammunition he was delivering.
