Last week I took a load of school supplies donated by our members to the Intermediate School.

There were a few students gathered in front.  I asked them to help me carry them inside.  They quickly responded and the chore was done.  They were part of the "Youth Ending Hunger" Club and had been working on the school supply project.

I went inside and had a conversation with two ladies who were sorting through the supplies and checking their lists.

When I asked " where are these poor people in our apparently affluent Goshen?"

They promptly explained that they are everywhere.  There are lots of apartment buildings crammed with people.  Some live in buildings behind homes, hidden from the road.  Some even live in garages.  Man are rural.

They get the names and addresses from Pastors, Rabbis, social workers, teachers, and civic agencies.  So, in spite of what you may think is a nonexistent component of our town, there are plenty of very needy children.

Where I live, there is a family whose single mother is on welfare and can been seen going through trash cans on the block in search of  redeemable cans and bottles.

Please get to the store and buy the school supplies so that these children can start school with the necessary equipment.

Most of us live in nice homes and drive nice cars.  A few dollars to provide for the needy is not much to ask.
