The Highland Rotary Club is sponsoring the 13th Annual Hudson Valley Ribfest on August 18-20, 2017 at the Ulster County Fairgrounds, New Paltz, NY. Once again we are in need of volunteers to help us in the following areas: entrance fee collections, soda & water sales, raffle sales, table clean up, set up and break down of the grounds, and staffing the children’s area. High level job descriptions are attached. To compensate our volunteers, we are planning to share a portion of our proceeds with each organization. If your organization is interested in helping our club and is also interested in raising some money, please send an email to Denise Gorski (email address below) confirming your group will be volunteering. By July 28, 2017 please follow up by filling out the attached spreadsheet with the names of your committed volunteers and the shifts they will work, and forward by email to Denise. Activity preferences will be assigned as the names are received, and if a requested shift is filled, the volunteers will be assigned to another activity during that requested shift. We ask that the volunteers be flexible in accepting their assignments and also plan to work the full shift that they are assigned. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult during the entire shift. Sports teams working as a group must be accompanied by the coach or have other adult supervision during the entire shift. Please send responses to Denise Gorski, Email: gorskidc@verizon.net . Hudson Valley HONOR Flight
Oct. 26, 2017
HONOR Flight website.... Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which “Honors American Veterans” for all their sacrifices. We transport these heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost to them. We are a local hub of the National Honor Flight Network (which consists of over 100 independent non-profit “hubs” across America). Hudson Valley Honor Flight flies multiple times a year out of Stewart International Airport & Westchester County Airport. HVHF serves veterans from the following counties: Orange (NY), Ulster (NY), Dutchess (NY), Westchester (NY), Rockland (NY), Sullivan (NY), Putnam (NY), Pike (PA), Bergen (NJ), and Fairfield (CT). Veterans from other surrounding counties will be considered as well. Top priority is given to those of the Greatest Generation, that of World War II, and terminally ill veterans from other wars. We plan to take ALL veterans from other wars on future flights. Applications will be kept on file. Currently, over 550 World War II veterans die everyday, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out. “We can’t all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.” – Will Rogers |

Nov. 04, 2017 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
In a few hours it will officially be Fall and what a beautiful day it is! This time of year many club activities slow down a bit in preparation for winter and the second half of the Rotary year.
I've been asked to be chair one of my favorite annual District events - The Rotary Leadership Institute or RLI as many call it. I'm excited to once again get together with Rotarians from throughout the Hudson Valley as well as some who visit from Connecticut, Pennsylvania and surrounding states. It's one of my favorite events because RLI isn't like most seminars. Each session isn't taught, but rather the attendees in each class discuss the topics and learn from each other. With a little help from the facilitators of course. Through this interaction is how attendees gain the most knowledge.
I still remember when I took Part I. It was held at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. We were asked to submit evaluations after the different sessions and I still remember Betsy Kopstein (who was the current District Governor) asking me if she could use one of my comments during lunch at the end of the day. My comment was this: 'I've learned more about Rotary here at RLI in a few hours, than I've learned in the three years I've been a Rotarian! I will definitely come back next year to take Part II.'
I'm happy to announce District 7210 will once again reimburse any Rotarian (of three years or less) for the cost of Registration. So new members attend FREE! This is open to all Rotarians and perfect for those interested in leadership roles; not only in Rotary but in their career as well.
So please read over the attached letter and encourage your members to join me on the morning of November 4th for a day of Rotary fellowship, knowledge and fun!
RETAIN YOUR MEMBERS
EDUCATE YOUR MEMBERS
ENCOURAGE NEW LEADERS
DO IT ALL IN ONE RLI DAY !
September 22, 2017
Dear Presidents:
Happy first day of Fall. NOW is the perfect time to better educate your club members about Rotary!
If you need HELP RETAINING club members or if you especially want to keep your current members excited about Rotary, it’s easy! Send them to the November 4, 2017 Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) training meeting at Mt. St. Mary’s College, Newburgh, NY, 9 AM – 3 PM. (A light breakfast and lunch will be served.)
New and long-term Rotarians alike especially club officers who attend a day of these RLI programs become dedicated members. It’s like drinking from the Rotary fire hose! There is a wealth of resources in every session.
I encourage EVERY Rotary club to send members to The Rotary Leadership Institute and new members attend free. You read that right! The District will reimburse NEW members of 3 yrs. or less who attend Part I who have not attended RLI before. (Your club or member must first registers and pay online or with a check and will then be reimbursed in full after attending the event.) The cost for the day is $75.
New to RLI? Take Part I. If you’ve already taken Part I, II or III, take the next Part in order. After Part III is the Graduate Course. Don’t get upset if you enjoy attending RLI and you’ve already ‘graduated,’ because you can continue to take the Graduation Course each year as the topics change annually. This year’s Graduation topics are Ethics & Diversity in Rotary.
Register today at www.rlinea.org (look for the Newburgh date in the left column). For more information please e-mail me at PDGPenny@gmail.com.
Yours in Rotary Service, PDG Penny
