Devastation in Haiti
Dec. 15, 2016
Having a higher purpose in life keeps Maria motivated to do more every day to help people. After the devastating earthquake of 2010, Maria's 17 year old daughter Carina was called to do more. Together they traveled to the poorest third world country,to not knowing the people or their language. Many lives transformed from this trip. The HEART in Haiti School is thriving by empowering children and the community to reach its full potential. |

Traumatic Brain Injuries
Mar. 30, 2017
Welcome to Beacon Place! As you may know, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), through accidents, falls, abuse, assaults or other causes, greatly impacts the lives of survivors and their families. Lives change in an instant. It can be hard to know what to do – where to go. I have learned a lot about TBI over the past few years, much of it from survivors of traumas and stroke. During this time, I’ve learned:
I am glad to be the Executive Director at Beacon Place, a place committed to help those with TBI to succeed and a place where hope never ends. Our programs and services are intended to provide wraparound care for the survivors of TBI. Whether someone has private insurance, is covered under the Medicaid waiver or is self-pay, we want to be there to provide assistance. At Beacon Place we provide person-centered care. Our clients are active, vocal participants in their treatment. We set goals together, work together towards those goals and meet them together. We are invested in our clients’ successes, in partnerships that grow one step at a time. Our Structured Day Program, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, Service Planning, Independent Living and Community Integration Services are provided with the highest standards in mind. I plan to post future messages from time to time. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to send me an email or call me at (845) 827-6680. When I say that we care and want to help, it is a real commitment — a commitment to helping and healing, one person at a time. Warmest regards, |

Apr. 03, 2017 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
On behalf of the Liberty Rotary Club, we would like to cordially invite you to attend our 2nd Annual Hummingbird Award and Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Brunch to be held at the New Hope Community in Loch Sheldrake on Sunday April 3rd from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM.
At the brunch we will be presenting this year’s Hummingbird Awards (see the “I Will Be A Hummingbird” story below for an explanation) to community member Al “Funzi” Frangipane, Livingston Manor Rotarian Dr. Don Simkin, Liberty Rotarian and past president (4 times) Jack Strassman and The Interfaith Council of Liberty with our club’s Hummingbird Award.
We will also be recognizing Peter Blakey, Fay Cerullo, Gary Siegel (Paul Harris Fellow Plus 1), and our current club president Gary Silver as our newest Paul Harris Fellows. This recognition acknowledges individuals as outstanding Rotarians who have demonstrated the Four Way Test and performed Service Above Self. The suggested donation for the brunch is $15 and will benefit our club’s Haiti Clean Water Program Sustainability Fund which has been established to provide necessary supplies and support to the 1000 Haitian families that have received water filtration systems as a result of the global grant from the Rotary Foundation. These systems are providing healthy, clean, potable water to more than 5000 men, women and children in Cap Haitien. All guests will have an opportunity to make a donation to the sustainability fund which will help provide these families with healthy, clean, potable water well past the 4 ½ years that the grant covers.
To make a reservation, please contact one of us at your earliest convenience. There is a limit of 150 guests and we do anticipate that this event will sell out. Reservations will be accepted until April 18th or until sold out. If you are unable to attend, kindly consider making a donation (see attached donation form). Thanks for your anticipated support and we hope to see you on April 23rd. Sincerely,
Liberty Rotary Club Recognition Brunch Committee

I WILL BE A HUMMINGBIRD
We are constantly being bombarded by problems that we face and sometimes we can get completely overwhelmed. The story of the Hummingbird is about this huge forest being consumed by a raging wild fire. All the animals in the forest come out and they are transfixed as they watch the forest burning and they feel very overwhelmed… very powerless…. Except for this little hummingbird who says “I’m going to do something about the fire” so it flies to the nearest stream, takes a drop of water, puts it on the fire and goes up and down, up and down, up and down as fast as it can. In the meantime all the other animals… much bigger animals like the elephant… with a BIG trunk, who could bring much more water…. they are standing there helpless and they are saying to the hummingbird, “What do you think you can do? You’re too little…This fire is too big… Your wings are too little…. And your beak so small… you can only bring a small drop of water at a time but as they continue to discourage it, it turns to them without wasting anytime and tells them…. “I’m doing the best I can… I’m doing what I can!...I’m doing my part” In order to make your community a better place, in order to make the world a better place, we must all be hummingbirds.
